This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to marstacimab-hncq.How to Use This Medicine:
Injectable
- Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given. This medicine is given as a shot under your skin. It is usually injected into the buttocks, upper arms, thighs, or stomach.
- A nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.
- You may be taught how to give your medicine at home. Make sure you understand all instructions before giving yourself an injection. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.
- You will be shown the body areas where this shot can be given. Use a different body area each time you give yourself a shot. Keep track of where you give each shot to make sure you rotate body areas. Do not inject into skin areas that are bony, tender, red, bruised, hard, or sore, or into areas with scars or stretch marks.
- This medicine is available in 2 forms: a prefilled pen or a prefilled syringe.
- Allow the medicine to warm to room temperature for 15 to 30 minutes. Do not warm using other heat sources (including hot water or microwave).
- Check the liquid in the pen or syringe. It should be clear and colorless to light yellow. Do not use it if it is frozen, thawed, cloudy, dark yellow, or has flakes or particles in it. Do not shake. Do not use it if it is damaged or has been dropped.
- Prefilled pen:
- Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine.
- Twist and pull off the cap. Do not put or press your hand over the needle guard.
- Hold the pen at a 90 degree angle against your skin. Firmly push the pen down straight against your skin and keep pushing until the injection is complete. You will hear the first "click" when the injection starts.
- Keep pushing the pen firmly until you see the yellow bar move across the window. You will hear a second "click" when injection is almost complete. Slowly count to 5 after you hear the second "click" and until the yellow bar completely fills the window to make sure you receive the full dose.
- Prefilled syringe:
- Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine.
- Remove the needle cover. Do not touch the needle.
- Gently pinch the skin. Insert the needle at about a 45 degree angle. Do not hold or push the plunger while inserting the needle.
- Push the plunger rod all the way down, until the barrel is empty. Slowly count to 5 after the plunger rod has been fully pushed down before removing the needle from your skin.
- Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
- Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
- Maintenance dose of 150 milligrams (mg): If you miss a dose and it is more than 13 days, call your doctor or pharmacist for instructions.
- If you store this medicine at home, keep it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. Protect the medicine from direct light. Keep the medicine in the original package until you are ready to use it. If needed, you may store the prefilled pen or prefilled syringe at room temperature for up to 7 days. Do not return it to the refrigerator. Throw the medicine away if it has been left out of the refrigerator for more than 7 days.
- Throw away used needles in a hard, closed container that the needles cannot poke through. Keep this container away from children and pets.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
Warnings While Using This Medicine:
- It is not safe to take this medicine during pregnancy. It could harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant. If you can get pregnant, your doctor may do tests to make sure you are not pregnant before starting this medicine. Use an effective form of birth control during treatment and for 2 months after the last dose.
- Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding, or if you have blood clots, infection, or injury.
- This medicine may increase your risk for blood clots.
- Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. You may need to stop using this medicine several days before you have surgery or medical tests.
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Chest pain, coughing up blood
- Headache
- Numbness or weakness in your arm or leg, or on one side of your body, pain in your lower leg
- Pain, itching, burning, redness, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the shot is given
- Sudden or severe headache, problems with vision, speech, or walking
