This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to levacetylleucine.How to Use This Medicine:
Liquid
- Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.
- Oral liquid:
- Wash your hands before and after using this medicine.
- Open and empty the packet into a container with 40 milliliters (mL) of liquid (including water, orange juice, or almond milk). Do not use hot liquid.
- Stir the mixture. Swallow the oral liquid right away (within 30 minutes). Throw away any unused mixture if not taken within 30 minutes.
- You may also give the medicine through a gastrostomy tube (G-tube):
- Wash your hands before and after using this medicine.
- Open and empty the packet into a container with 40 milliliters (mL) of water. Do not use hot water.
- Stir the mixture. Draw the prepared medicine using a catheter tip syringe. Inject the liquid mixture through the G-tube right away. Throw away any unused mixture if not given right away.
- Add 20 mL of water and flush the tube until no remaining medicine is seen in the syringe or tube.
- Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
- Missed dose: If you miss a dose of this medicine, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
- Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
- Mix the expired packets or unused mixture with dirt, cat litter, or used coffee grounds. Place the mixture in a sealed plastic bag and throw away in your household trash.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Some medicines can affect how levacetylleucine works. Tell your doctor if you are using any other medicines.
Warnings While Using This Medicine:
- It is not safe to take this medicine during pregnancy. It could harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant. If you can get pregnant, your doctor may give you a pregnancy test before you start using this medicine to make sure you are not pregnant. Use an effective form of birth control during treatment and for at least 7 days after the last dose.
- Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Fever, chills, cough, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, body aches
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Stomach pain, vomiting
- Trouble swallowing
