This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to arimoclomol.How to Use This Medicine:
Capsule
- Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.
- Swallow the capsule whole.
- If you are unable to swallow the capsule whole:
- Open the capsule and sprinkle the entire contents into 15 milliliters (mL) of water or apple juice or 15 mL of soft food (including applesauce, pudding, or yogurt). Do not mix with any other liquids.
- Stir the mixture for 15 seconds. Swallow the mixture right away.
- Do not save the mixture for later use.
- You may also give the medicine through a nasogastric tube or gastric tube:
- Open the capsule and sprinkle the contents into a cup with 20 mL water. Do not mix with any other liquids.
- Stir the mixture for 15 seconds. Pull the plunger to withdraw the whole mixture into the feeding tube syringe. Attach the syringe to the feeding tube. Slowly push the plunger to give the mixture right away.
- Add 5 mL of water and flush the feeding tube.
- Do not save the mixture for later use.
- Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
- Missed dose: If you miss a dose of this medicine, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
- Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Store in the original container.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Some medicines can affect how arimoclomol works. Tell your doctor if you are using any medicines.
Warnings While Using This Medicine:
- It is not safe to take this medicine during pregnancy. It could harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant.
- Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or if you have kidney disease.
- This medicine could cause infertility. Talk with your doctor before using this medicine if you plan to have children.
- Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Fever, chills, cough, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, body aches
- Seizures
- Shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet, trembling or shaking of the hands or feet
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Diarrhea, decreased appetite
- Headache
- Weight loss
