When This Medicine Should Not Be Used:

This vaccine may not be right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to chikungunya vaccine, or if you have a weak immune system (including cancer, HIV infection).

How to Use This Medicine:

Injectable

• Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given. This medicine is given as a shot into one of your muscles.
• A nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.
• Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

Drugs and Foods to Avoid:

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

• Some medicines may affect how chikungunya vaccine works. Tell your doctor if you are using a blood thinner.

Warnings While Using This Medicine:

• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. This vaccine may transmit chikungunya virus from pregnant women to their babies. Talk to your doctor if you have concerns.
• Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding, or if you have bleeding problems or immune system problem.
• This vaccine may cause the following problems:
  • Severe or prolonged chikungunya-like reactions
  • Fainting
• This vaccine may not protect everyone who receives it. It will not treat symptoms of chikungunya virus if you already have the disease.
• Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

• Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
• Fainting
• Fever, chills
• Joint or muscle pain

If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

• Headache, nausea
• Pain, redness, or swelling where the shot was given

If you notice other side effects that you think are caused by this medicine, tell your doctor
