When This Medicine Should Not Be Used:

How to Use This Medicine:

Injectable

• Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and how often it should be given. This medicine is given through a needle placed in one of your veins.
• You will receive this medicine in a hospital or surgery center. A nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.

Drugs and Foods to Avoid:

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

• Make sure your doctor knows if you have used an MAO inhibitor (such as Eldepryl®, Marplan®, Nardil®, or Parnate®) within the past 14 days.
• Tell your doctor if you use anything else that makes you sleepy. Some examples are allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, and alcohol.
• Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medicine.

Warnings While Using This Medicine:

• Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Tell your doctor if you have heart disease or heart rhythm problems, high blood pressure, asthma, emphysema (COPD), or other lung problems. Make sure your doctor knows if you have kidney disease or liver disease, or if you have ever had a head injury or a brain tumor.
• This medicine can be habit-forming. Do not use more than your prescribed dose. Call your doctor if you think your medicine is not working.
• This medicine may make you dizzy or drowsy. Avoid driving, using machines, or doing anything else that requires you to be fully alert.
• This medicine may cause constipation, especially with long-term use. Ask your doctor if you should use a laxative to prevent and treat constipation.

Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

• Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
• Confusion or hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are not really there).
• Lightheadedness or fainting after you awaken from surgery.
• Muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness.
• Problems with balance or walking.
• Shallow or difficult breathing.
• Slow heartbeat.
• Stiff or rigid muscles, tight feeling in your throat.
• Trouble swallowing or speaking.
• Twitching or muscle movements you cannot control.

If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

• Blurred vision.
• Mood or behavior changes.
• Muscle weakness or stiffness in the days after you receive this medicine.
• Nausea or vomiting.
• Shivering, shaking, or trembling.
• Sweating.
