Dilates the pupil of the eye during certain medical procedures.

When This Medicine Should Not Be Used:

How to Use This Medicine:

Spray

• This medicine is given by spraying into your eye.
• A nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.
• If you are wearing contact lenses, remove them at least 10 minutes before you receive the eye spray.

Drugs and Foods to Avoid:

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

• Some medicines can affect how tropicamide/phenylephrine works. Tell your doctor if you are using atropine, carbachol, or pilocarpine.
• Do not use other eye products (including artificial tears) within 10 minutes of receiving this medicine.

Warnings While Using This Medicine:

• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have heart or blood vessel disease or overactive thyroid.
• This medicine may cause the following problems:
  • Mood or mental changes
  • Increased pressure in the eye
  • Rebound miosis (narrowing of the pupils) one day after receiving this medicine
• This medicine may cause blurred vision. Do not drive or do anything else that could be dangerous after receiving this medicine until you know how this medicine affects you.
• Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

• Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
• Blurred vision, change or loss of vision, dry eyes
• Fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat
• Mood or mental changes, unusual behavior
• Muscle stiffness or tightness

If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

• Dry mouth
• Nausea, vomiting
